STOCKCAR REPORT MONDAY 12th MAY
Hot weather led to some hot racing at Monday evenings stockcar meeting. Six white and yellow graded ministox drivers gridded for race 1. #95 Ryan Henderson claimed the win leading from flag to flag, #99 Dean Wade held off cousin #100 Sarah Wade ahead of the ever improving trio #777 Luke Dawson, #51 Nathan Hamilton and #101 Cliona Collins.
Race 2 consisted of all grades which was led away by Ryan, Sarah took the lead by lap 3, but tangled and spun onto the in field handing the lead and victory to #18 Andrew Rothwell, Ryan held onto second, finishing ahead of #46 Rhys Warrilow.
Sarah made amends in race 3 winning ahead of Rhys and Andrew.
Race 4 saw the action spread all around the track Sarah again won from Andrew, but behind them Ryan held off constant pressure from Dean to claim 3rd, behind this battling duo Luke stayed calm under pressure from #400 Emily Grimshaw to finish 5th. Emily racing well to claim the last championship point. Both novice drivers Nathan and Cliona completed race distance.
With points scored totalled Andrew won overall with Sarah and Ryan equal on 13 points, Sarah was awarded 2nd due to her higher place finish in race 4.
Race 1 of the Formula 2 s had to be stopped to remove the stricken #8 Ray Corkish car from the racing line having hit the steel plating hard on the start finish line. Race leader #426 Mark Davenport withstood the pressure from #43 Billy O Neil and #36 Adam Smith who had closed up for the restart, entering the last lap #43 Billy took a lunge at the back of Marks car but over cooked hit spinning onto the in field, Mark raced to victory with Adam taking 2nd, Billy recovering for 3rd.
Mark continued his winning ways taking the chequered in the remaining races, finishing ahead of Adam and #2 Gary Davenport on both occasions. 2008 newcommers #14 Craig Lee and #88 Dave Nisbet who have both encounted problems in recent meetings raced well, Craig finishing ahead of Dave in race 2 but retiring from race 3, Dave finished both to score championship points.
The U Drive Go Karts trophies were awarded to 1st Mark, 2nd Adam, 3rd Billy.
#30 James Caine took the dubious honour of becoming the first driver to roll in the 2008 season, assisted by a nudge from #16 Gary Crellin. This happened mid distance in race 1, which had to be stopped to allow James to exit his battered Peugeot 405, to applause from the crowd.
#61 Shaun Brennan passed race leader #40 Jon Davies on the restart to win. Shaun also won the remaining two races from Gary and Jon, leaving it late in race 3 overtaking long time leader Jon with just 2 laps to go.
The top three point scorers were 1st Shaun, 2nd Gary, 3rd Jon.
The production rods put on a good show of high speed driving with cars circulating door handle to door handle. James Maguire #717 won race 1.
Bruce Dunstone #42 held off an hard charging #169 Paul Devereau winning race 2 by just a couple of feet.
Race 3 again proved competitive but an over ambitious move by Paul driving the Honda Civic spun out Bruce in front of the starters rostrum and was excluded from the results, this being a non contact class.
With points totalled James was 1st, with Bruce and Paul equal scoring 11 points.
The next meeting at Onchan Raceway will take place on Monday 19th May starting at 7.45 pm.
