STOCKCAR REPORT MONDAY 19th MAY
Monday evenings stockcar racing proved eventful in every class. Ministox race 1 for white and yellow grade drivers had to be stopped on lap 5 due to a high speed roll performed by #100 Sarah Wade.
Race 2 with all cars racing also had to be stopped due to #7 Grant Crellin clipping an in field marker tyre and rolling in front of the corner grandstand. The restarted race was won by #46 Rhys Warrilow. Rhys again negotiated the packed track to win the remaining 2 races.
Trophies were awarded to 1st Rhys, 2nd Ryan Henderson, 3rd Andrew Rothwell. But these and the points scored are still dependant on the outcome and decision of video footage of the racing. # 50 the hire car was driven by Toby Cross making his track debut after completing the ministox driving school, who drove well to finish each race.
#426 Mark Davenport continued his winning ways claiming victory in all 3 formula 2 races. Mark taking advantage of his front of the grid starting position, this will change after next Mondays meeting, when re grading takes place. Behind him a good battle for positions ensued with #36 Adam Smith 2nd on 2 occasions and #43 Billy O Neill 2nd in race 2. The last corner of race 3 was very entertaining for the corner grandstand spectators. #2 Gary Davenport attempted to push Billy wide, at the same time # 8 Ray Corkish attacked the back bumper of Gary s car. Billy survived to finish 3rd while Ray half spun but recovered to finish 4th leaving Gary stranded on top of an infield marker tyre. The Onchan Raceway trophies were awarded to 1st Mark, 2nd Adam, 3rd Ray.
The best field of Bangers so far this season saw plenty of action in each race. # 419 Antony Aspel led race 1 until the last lap when #40 Jon Davies pushed past, narrowly beating Antony to the chequered. Antony made amends in races 2 and 3 winning ahead of # 61 Shaun Brennan on both occasions. Race 3 had to be suspended when #41 Barry Quine hit the fence hard in the opening laps damaging his BMW quite badly. The top 3 point scoring drivers and trophy winners were :- 1st Antony, 2nd Shaun, 3rd Steven Guest.
The production rods fielded 3 new car / driver combinations :- #9 Andrew Livesey making his track debut, #30 James Caine and John Whitehead trying out the Ford Fiesta spirit of 69 car, built to be used by guest T.T riders and then drivers who raced during the early years of stockcar racing at Onchan in the 1970 s, in the coming weeks.
Race wins were split between James Caine, #717 James Maguire and #42 Bruce Dunstone with overall trophies awarded to 1st James Caine, 2nd Bruce Dunstone, 3rd James Maguire.
Next week sees racing take place on Monday 26th and Thursday 29th May both starting at 7.45pm. Both meetings feature visiting Reliant Robin driver from England who will race with our local drivers to decide the winner of the 2008 Reliant Robin Manx Grand Prix. With 15 Robins expected there should be more action guaranteed.
