STOCKCAR REPORT MONDAY  26th MAY

2008  RELIANT ROBIN MANX GRAND PRIX

26-May small 00036Many spills and lots of thrills at Monday evenings stockcar race meeting, kindly sponsored by Mann Construction.

A record breaking 18 Reliant Robins raced in this the first meeting of the 2008 Reliant Robin Manx Grand Prix. #9 David Weaver from Croydon one of 12 visiting drivers rolled in practice, which set the theme for the evening. There were more rollovers in this meeting than we usually see in a whole season.

26-May small 00045Race 1 was won by #126 Chris Tullet from West Sussex who regained the lead from #87 Barry Richards visiting from Bristol.
A multi car pile up exiting turn 4 resulted in 3rd and 4th placed drivers #78 Mark Bowskill and #9 David Weaver sliding over the finish line on their sides, causing havoc to the chasing pack.

#87 Barry Richards made amends winning race 2 from Mark Bowskill and David Weaver.

26-May small 00151Race 3 was very eventfull for the Wades racing team # 105 driven by Rab McCluskey rolled on lap 2 , then both pink cars #103 rolled on lap 4, # 102 having raced well and been high on the leader board over cooked it on turn 1 rolling and also collecting the unfortunate #9 David Weaver in the process, bringing an eventful race to an early end 1 lap early. With the top three drivers at this stage being #78 Mark Bowskill, #87 Barry Richards, and #126 Chris Tullet.

With total points scored very close everything is to race for at this Thursdays deciding meeting.

26-May small 00145The crowd witnessed some good close racing in the ministox class, with the Mann Construction trophies awarded to 1st Rhys Warrilow, 2nd Andrew Rothwell and 3rd #99 Dean Wade, having finished each race in these positions. Racing was close and competitive throughout the field, right down to a battle amongst the novices # 101 Cliona Collins, #118 Alex Callister and the #50 hire car driven by Shauni Townend.

Race 1 of the Formula 2 s also had to be stopped on lap 2 when #14 Craig Lee performed a high speed barrel roll, he climbed out uninjured to applause from the crowd. #426 Mark Davenport claimed victory once the race was restarted.

26-May small 00093Race 2 had to be suspended to remove the stricken #890 Dave Bennett car from the racing line, this allowed the pack to close up, on the restart #43 Billy O Neill bumpered Mark wide to take the lead and record his first Formula 2 win.

Mark again won race 3 his last as a white graded driver, re grading takes place before Thursdays meeting. The top 3 point scorers and trophy winners were, 1st Mark Davenport, 2nd Adam Smith, 3rd Billy O Neill.

26-May small 00159Steven Guest won Bangers race 1 finishing ahead of #16 Gary Crellin and a returning #107 Will Heavey who last raced back in the early 1990s.
Gary took command winning the remaining 2 races to finish 1st overall, Steven was 2nd and #169 Paul Devereau 3rd overall.

The final meeting of this years Reliant Robin Manx Grand Prix takes place this Thursday 29th May, amazingly all 18 will be race worthy and ready to do battle again.
