STOCKCAR REPORT MONDAY 29th MAY
2008 RELIANT ROBIN MANX GRAND PRIX
The final meeting to decide the 2008 Reliant Robin Manx Grand Prix took place last Thursday. All 18 robins from Mondays hectic meeting survived to line up for race 1.
#117 Craig Wright visiting from Weston Super Mare set a fast pace and led the first 4 laps until #293 Jay Rademeyer from West Sussex took control to win. Craig held on to finish 2nd ahead of #126 Chris Tullet another driver making the long trip from the South of England.
Race 2 saw 4 race stoppages due to rollovers performed by #50 Russel Chandler, #78 Mark Bowskill, (who rolled and returned onto 3 wheels and continued to race before the remaining cars had stopped) also local drivers #105 Rab Mc Cluskey and #26 Simon Bushe. These all happened before 5 laps had been completed. Amazingly 15 cars completed race distance, #126 Chris Tullet eventually taking the chequered flag, ahead of #78 Mark Bowskill and #87 Barry Richards all 3 the main title contenders.
Before the start of the last race which counted for the championship Barry and Chris had scored 43 points each with Mark just 2 points behind.
#6 Stuart Weaver from Kent rolled on the first lap of race 3, Chris Tullets title hopes disappeared when he rolled with #911 Stuart Hampson on the 2nd lap of the restart, but rejoined, #50 Russel Chandler rolled again on lap 6 . At the front Barry Richards led home fellow traveller Mark to increase his points advantage 3rd was #9 David Weaver.

Sammy Jo the only girl driving the reliants and racing the # 426 Pepa Pig robin survived every race but joined the up side down club by rolling over at the pit gate while leaving the track after race 3, much to the crowds amusement. Race 4 was brought to an end with 3 laps left to run when one of the Wades Truck services cars rolled heavily on turn 3. Leading driver at that stage was # 78 Mark Bowskill who was awarded the win. Ending an enjoyable weeks racing.
#46 Rhys Warrilow recorded 2 race wins in the ministox class. #400 Emily Grimshaw revitalised now starting from yellow gained one win a second and a third to collect the 1st overall Jaks Bar trophy, 2nd was Rhys with #18 Andrew Rothwell 3rd. Hire car drivers #50 Shauni Townend and #51 Nathan Hamilton both drove well on the congested track, finishing all races.
After taking his first race win of the season in race 1 #36 Adam Smith held off a spirited last bend challenge for #426 Mark Davenport to win race 2, Mark over cooked it spinning exiting the last bend finishing 4th by crossing the line backwards.
Mark made amends winning race 3 finishing ahead of Adam and #88 Dave Nisbet. Jaks bar trophies were awarded to 1st Adam, 2nd Mark, 3rd # 43 Billy O Neill.
#41 Barry Quine rolled his BMW on the first lap of race 1 for the bangers, other moments of madness resulted in only 2 cars completing race distance in race 3. #61 Shaun Brennan staying clear of the carnage to take 3 race wins and 1st overall with #53 Chris Crellin 2nd and #16 Gary Crellin 3rd overall.
The next meeting will take place on Thursday 5th June starting at 7.45 pm, and is the annual T.T rides night and will also feature Heritage stockcars from England, these are replica cars as raced in the 1960’s and 70’s. The heritage cars stay over to join in celebrations of 40 years of racing on Monday 9th June.
The first ever stockcar meeting was held 9th June 1969.
