40 YEARS OF RACING
The first ever stockcar meeting at Onchan Park was held 9th June 1969, with Darkie Wright winning the first F2 race held.
Thursday 5th and Monday 9th June 2008 saw our regular Ministox, Formula 2 stockcars, Bangers and Production Rods joined on track by 5 visiting Brisca Heritage drivers racing replica cars of the ones raced in the mid to late 1960s.
Thursday was round 1 and the 5 Heritage drivers all showed great determination racing these old machines.
#7 Peter Fenton from Manchester driving a 1936 Ford Model Y won race 1 with #732 Stuart Bailey from Gloscestershire racing a lowered Ford Popular winning race 2.
Race 3 was led away by Manchesters, Nigel Finnigan racing a 1935 Ford Model Y, #7 Peter Fenton took the lead on lap 4, leading until the 3 laps to go board was shown. #722 Clive Beales from Banbury racing a 1949 Ford Anglia then led, however he was under constant pressure from the number #7 driver, Clive crossing the finish line sideways and winning by only 2 feet from Peter and #732 Stu Bailey.
Race 4 saw Stuart Bailey claim another win adapting well to the Onchan track.

Round 2
On Monday evening a fine selection of classic cars were on display thanks to the Manx Classic Car Club.
Also in attendance were a large group of original Banger and Formula 2 drivers who raced back in 1969 and the 1970s. They received applause from the spectators while circulating the banked track on the back of the HSS Hire Centre pick up truck.
The five visiting Heritage stockcar drivers racing cars from that era definitely brought back memories of yester year. All four races were close and competitive, race wins were awarded to #722 Clive Beales and #59 Nigel Finnigan.
The final also saw a close finish, Clive narrowly beating #7 Peter Fenton and #732 Stuart Bailey across the finish line.
Peter led race 4 from the start in his 1936 Ford Model Y, he was caught on the last lap by Clive driving the 1949 Ford Anglia. Peter held the inside line to win while Clive drifted wide bouncing off the steel plate fence to finish second, ahead of Stuart and Nigel.
Unfortunately #773 Nick Whitney who drove an original 1968 Ford Pop / Fiat Topolino bodied car suffered mechanical problems in race 3 ending his weeks racing early.
The HSS Hire Centre sponsored trophies were awarded to the top 3 point scorers over both meetings :- 1st Clive Beales 36 points 2nd Peter Fenton 32 3rd Stuart Bailey 29 4th Nigel Finnigan 21 5th Nick Whitney 20
