Welcome to Onchanraceway

Onchan Raceway is located in Onchan Stadium, part of Onchan Pleasure Park here on the Isle of Man.
Each meeting features several races from three different stock car classes - Mini Stox, Formula 2 & Bangers, with a forth class, Reliant Robins, at selected meetings.
Stock Car racing first began at Onchan on the 9th June 1969, with Darkie Wright winning the first F2 race held.
Various improvements have been made to the Track since then, the last major one being new steel plating along the start / finish straight & the replacement of the track surface back in 1997, the latter enabling the cars to achieve average lap speeds of nearly 70 mph.
Drivers in each race are awarded points in the following order: - 1st = 6 points, 2nd = 5 points and so on down to 1 point for 6th place, 1 point is also awarded to each driver turning out for the "Parade" lap at the start of the evening.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Phil Hogg Rescue unit and St John's Ambulance crews who attend each meeting, without their help the meetings would not be possible.
I hope you enjoy the site & look forward seeing you at one of our events.

Swifts04 Ministox
Ministox02Ministox are driven by 10 to 16 year olds, drivers who reach their 16th birthday during the racing season are allowed to continue racing until the end of that current season.

The Austin Rover Mini 1000 is the base vehicle used, engines are only allowed a minimum amount of tuning & standard suspension parts must be used.
The cars are heavily armoured and fitted with a full roll cage for driver protection.

Even though the drivers are very young, the races are usually very close and full of action.

Ministox where first introduced on the Isle of Man for the 1993 season, it is now an established training ground for future stars.

Over 50 youngsters have raced Ministox since 1993, many of who have progressed into other stock car formulas, some have tried rally driving.

 Formula 2

F2'sFormula 2 stockcars are purpose built single seaters.

Virtually all cars are fitted with a Ford 2 litre OHC engine, similar to the ones fitted in Cortina's and Sierra's.

The chassis are fabricated from 50mm x 50mm box section main rails with tubular roll cages and nerf rails.

Mk2 Ford Escort rear axles are used with fabricated front suspension. Body panels are all aluminium.

Most cars are fitted with a large roof mounted wing that creates extra grip on the rear wheels.

Speeds of around 70 mph are attained around the raceway – racing in 2nd gear – higher speeds could probably be achieved by using racing slicks but these are not allowed under the regulations, the Avon wide safety cross ply being the only one permitted.

Racing direction is always anti-clockwise; this stems from the early days of stockcar racing that took place in America in the 1940's.

Formula 2 stockcar racing is a true national sport, over 500 drivers are registered with BRISCA (British Stockcar Association) and race at stadiums throughout the UK and mainland Europe.

Ist Choice02Bangers

Bangers02As the name implies, these are standard road cars that have reached the end of their useful road life.

No strengthening is allowed except for the addition of a roll cage or prop behind the driver's head and a door plate or door bar to protect the driver from side impact.

The rules of this formula are made to keep the cost of racing to a minimum and encourage new driver's to have a go

Tanfastic02Robins

RobinsNot the best handling cars in the world, but provide spectacular entertainment when raced!.
